CORE VALUES
Background
The constitution of Kenya recognizes the family as a fundamental unit of society, the necessary basic for social order and bestows the responsibility of childcare on the child’s biological family. It is therefore anchored in law that children should, as much as possible live with and be cared for by their families of birth. However, this may not be the scenario in every circumstance. In Kenya there are estimated 45000 children living in charitable children’s institutions (CCIs) To fully align with globally acceptance standards of care the government in collaboration with other like-minded players in child sector.
The Shift is now towards family-based care such as kinship, foster, adoption and guardianship among other legally acceptable alternative care options. Joy Foster care intents to promote foster care services as an alternative care option for children who have lost or at risk of losing parental care in Kenya
